An accomplished businessman, real estate broker and auctioneer, Bear Stephenson has a deep appreciation of his clients. He has a genuine, engaging personality, as well as
a lightening-speed chant and a knack for making his audiences laugh. Bear has earned numerous accolades from the communities he serves. Most recently, Stephenson Realty & Auction was selected as “Veteran-Owned Business of the Year” by the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce. Readers of Knoxville’s CityView Magazine named Bear “Best Auctioneer” for three years in a row, from 2019 to 2021.
Born in Anderson County, Bear attended Clinton High School and is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University. After serving two years in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, he returned home, working in banking and real estate development before starting Stephenson Realty & Auction in 1982.
A member of the Tennessee Auctioneers Hall of Fame, Bear served as president of the Tennessee Auctioneers Association in 1992-1993. Earlier he served four years as the East Tennessee vice president and director of the association. He has also served as president of the Anderson County Board of Realtors. He is a member of the National Auctioneers Association.
Bear generously contributes his time and talent to an average of 50 auctions a year to help area non-profit organizations raise funds. He also devotes time to civic and community groups, serving on the board and as chair of East Tennessee Public Broadcasting and as a past campaign chair for United Way of Anderson County. He is a member of the 4H Foundation Board and served as board chair of Community Bank of East Tennessee for 14 years.

After college, he moved back to Nashville, Tennessee where he continued his career in the real estate field. He has represented clients in the lease of mixed-use commercial development and high rise condominium sales. With this background, Rick has a professional, well rounded approach as a team leader and vast knowledge of municipal and political processes. Amongst other endeavors, Rick is a local Eagle Scout, attended Roane State Community College and University of Tennessee, has been honored by the U.S. Department of Energy, has served as managing principal broker for two firms… and has hiked over 800 miles on the Appalachian Trail! As a fifth generation resident of this area, John Meyer’s roots are firmly planted in East Tennessee soil. He has spent the majority of my life working in several different capacities for his family at the Museum of Appalachia.
